Kyra Panagia is a very small island, without any villages. It can be visited on foot and, besides the marine park's seabed and its wild aspect, it is appreciated for the presence of the charming Orthodox monastery, which I highlight below:
Monastery of Kyra Panagia
Located above the bay of Agios Petros, it is a beautiful fortified Orthodox monastery from the 11th century. Immersed in solitude and very panoramic, the monastery is visitable and features various frescoes, embroidered vestments, icons, and religious objects. Notably, an old oil mill once used to produce oil sent to the monks of Mount Athos, the owners of the entire island, is still visible.
Fiord of Planitis
The natural harbor of Planitis is a spectacular fjord with a very narrow entrance. The natural environment is very beautiful, and the area is frequented by dolphins.
Marine Park
The marine park that includes Kyra Panagia is the largest in the Mediterranean. Here, if you are lucky, you can spot the rare Mediterranean monk seal and dolphins. The area is recommended for snorkeling enthusiasts.
